Hypostress
Hypostress is a stress that is at the opposite end of the spectrum to hyperstress.Hypostress is a stress that is brought about by lack of motivation or feelings of boredom.
It seems strange to think that people who are at home all day or have a job that does not tax their minds greatly might be suffering from a stress but it is something that does affect a great many people.
Sufferers of Hypostress
As we have discussed in other articles stress is brought about by such contributing factors as problems with relationships problems in the workplace, financial difficulties and the like, but this particular stress is entirely different.Sufferers of hypostress are often people who find that they lack inspiration and motivation and have little to worry about in the workplace. Many sufferers of the condition are factory workers or manual labourers who feel unfulfilled in their current employment because they have nothing to do but churn out the same product or carry out the same task day in and day out.
It can sometimes be referred to as ‘Conveyor Belt Hypnosis’ and alludes to the fact that an individual might spend his or her day standing over a conveyor belt in a factory environment.
Often sufferers of the condition find no real enthusiasm for things around them. This can include family, friends, hobbies, sports and often sufferers of the condition find that they will become overweight or will suffer deteriorating health due to lack of exercise and over eating.
Hypostress and ADHD
Hypostress can sometimes be mistaken for ADHD – Attention Deficit Disorder – a condition that is occurring in an increasing number of adults but has been diagnosed mainly in children. Attention Deficit Disorder sufferers find themselves with an inability to concentrate or to mix with others around them; much like hypostress sufferers, hence the misdiagnosis. And again just like sufferers of ADHD, those people with Hypostress find that when they do mix with others they find it difficult to stop talking and also feel restless.
Signs, Symptoms and Complications
This feeling of restlessness in hypostress sufferers seems to stem from the fact that they want more from life but seem to struggle to achieve this. Also these sufferers can struggle to concentrate with a multitude of things such as reading, watching television and even maintaining a meaningful relationship. As with all types of stress, hypostress can lead to other conditions if it is not diagnosed. If a sufferer feels that they cannot motivate themselves or feels that they are unable to be creative it can lead to depression which in turn can lead to physical illness setting in.
Your doctor will be able to provide you with information on this kind of stress and will also be able to put you in touch with self-help groups who are trained to deal with sufferers of stress.
It is also worth remembering that a hypostress sufferer is not simply someone who is - or appears to be -easily bored; it is a psychological condition that – like many of the other types of stress we can experience – can become something much more serious if not addressed.
